Fluid Journal : Summer 2016
3 The Fluid Journal Summer 2016 Something To Think About The Fluid Journal • Official Journal of the Fluid Fertilizer Foundation • Summer 2016 • Vol. 23, No. 3, Issue #93 From The Publishers In this issue of the Fluid Journal is an article that should cause us to ponder, really ponder. A magazine named the Grower, published by Farmland Industries in Kansas City, Missouri, stated in 1971 that human reproduction of themselves might become their real undoing. Noted in the article was a well known statistic that not until 1800 did the world’s population reach the billion mark. The chiller, however, was that by 1971 (date of article’s publication) the world’s population had already tripled in a period of just 171 years. An article published by the National Lab for Agriculture and the Environment in this issue of the Fluid Journal states that by the year 2050 the population will be nine times the 1800 figure. It further notes that the question to ponder is: can agricultural production expand to meet this challenge? It doesn’t take much cranial activity to understand this may be one of the more important, if not alarming, articles to appear in this publication. The article is lengthy and details the many ways the researchers involved believe they can potentially achieve the goal of feeding 9 billion people by 2050. The study is well worth anyone’s read.
